Memorial for Corporal Barbara Ester
The East Arkansas Regional Unit observed a moment of silence in memory of fallen officer Cpl. Barbara Ester on Friday, January 19, 2018. .
Cpl. Ester died January 20, 2012 from a fatal stab by an inmate at the East Arkansas Regional Unit.
Though gone from our presence, her memory will forever be etched in the walls of the East Arkansas Unit and her legacy will always be honored by the Arkansas Department of Correction.

2017 Red Ribbon Run
The 28th Annual Red Ribbon Walk/Run, sponsored by the ADC, was held October 28, 2017 at JRMC Wellness Center in Pine Bluff. We had a total of 183 submissions for the walk/run. The event began with a continental breakfast and music from the Cummins Prison Band. Awards were given to the top three male and female finishers in 12 age divisions. Proceeds from the 5K Run allows a minimum of 5 scholarships to be awarded to graduating high school seniors of ADC/CCS employee children and children in Jefferson County.
East Arkansas Regional Unit Staff Recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, and in remembrance of those effected by the disease, staff at the EARU went Pink! Staff wore pink and held up signs suppporting a cure for breast cancer. Special recognition went to Records Supervisor, Pam Dover, who is a survivor of the disease.
1st Annual ACC Phenomenal Woman Conference
Staff members from around the agency attended the 1st Annual Phenomenal Woman Conference hosted by Arkansas Community Correction on September 15, 2017. The focus of the conference was to empower, motivate an encourage women. Former Miss Arkansas 2011, Kristen Glover Belew, (who is the grand daughter of Board of Correction member Bobby Glover), spoke to the women about her journey to become Miss Arkansas, the importance of having a positive attitude an helping others.
